Trained with
intent.
Nothing wasted.

I am Dr. Charles Trembley. For more than two decades I have built punchers at Robert Garcia Boxing Academy, including a ten year run with Jose Ramirez, unified world junior welterweight champion. I hold a PhD in optimal performance psychophysiology, and I train fighters the way the sport actually loads them.

Robert Garcia Boxing Academy is where the work gets proven. World champions, contenders and amateurs walk through the same door, and the strength program has to serve all of them without watering down what makes each one dangerous.

With Jose Ramirez that meant a full decade of camps. Platform strength in the base blocks, single leg power and rotational velocity work as the fight approaches, then controlled taper and cognitive recovery so the last four rounds still belong to him. Two world titles unified at 140 pounds came out of that process.

“Nobody gets knocked out by cardio. They get knocked out by force arriving faster than they can react.”

The method

The principle of
specificity.

Generic conditioning makes a tired fighter fitter. It does not make him hit harder. The program only earns its place if it moves the exact qualities the sport demands, measured and re examined every block.

  1. 01

    Specificity over volume

A fighter does not need more miles. He needs force delivered in the exact joint angles, contraction speeds and stance positions a punch actually lives in. Every exercise on the sheet has to look like the sport under a stopwatch or it comes off the sheet.

  2. 02

    Single leg is the truth

Power leaves the floor through one leg at a time. Rear foot drive, hip rotation, front side deceleration. We load, jump and land unilaterally so the punch has a base that does not leak energy sideways.

  3. 03

    Plyometrics as a punch tool

Contact times are short, so the training is short. Reactive hops, band resisted rotations, medicine ball releases and depth work build a stretch shortening cycle that turns bodyweight into knockout velocity.

  4. 04

Cool the brain, keep the round

My doctoral work measured what happens to decision speed after sparring, and how selective cerebral cooling protects it. Recovery is not a soft day. It is the reason round nine still has clean reads and clean feet.

Media and research

On the record.

Podcasts, boxing media and peer facing research. If you want the reasoning behind the programming, it is all here in long form.

Work together

Bring me
into camp.

I take on a limited number of fighters, teams and coaching staffs each year. Tell me the athlete, the date and the target, and I will tell you straight whether I am the right fit.
